Album Notes & Community Reviews
Serving as the debut album for Motown's first major solo female star, the record captures a raw, blues-oriented sound predating the label's slicker, signature pop formulas. Mary Wells' distinctively sweet, yearning vocal delivery carries the often gritty, rhythmically intense early productions of Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson.
