Album Notes & Community Reviews

The fifth installment in John Zorn's prolific Masada project continues the acoustic quartet's masterful synthesis of radical Jewish musical scales and the fiery, hard-bop improvisation of early Ornette Coleman. 'Hei 讛' relies heavily on the telepathic interplay between Zorn's blistering alto saxophone and Dave Douglas's highly agile trumpet lines. The rhythm section of Greg Cohen and Joey Baron continuously pushes the frantic, klezmer-infused melodies into thrillingly chaotic, avant-garde territory.
