Drifting further away from his electronic roots, Elliott crafts a deeply pessimistic collection centered on acoustic guitar and haunting choral arrangements. The influence of Eastern European traditional music gives the record a theatrical, dirge-like quality. The lyrical themes are apocalyptic, focusing on political failure and human suffering.
