Their final release on the legendary SST label finds the Kirkwood brothers steering the Meat Puppets toward a much heavier, polished hard rock sound. Discarding the shambolic country-punk of their early masterpieces, 'Monsters' features muscular, blues-inflected riffs and surprisingly tight production. While polarizing among their underground fanbase, it foreshadowed the band's impending alternative rock crossover in the early 90s.
