Album Notes & Community Reviews
Setting the bleak, existential texts of Samuel Beckett to music, the Austrian-born trumpeter's solo debut is a stark, incredibly demanding work of avant-garde jazz. Featuring vocal contributions from Cream's Jack Bruce alongside Carla Bley's piano and Don Cherry's saxophone, the sparse arrangements evoke an atmosphere of profound isolation and intellectual dread. It marks the inaugural release for WATT Works, cementing Mantler's role as a severe, boundary-pushing composer.
