The Courage of Others
by Midlake
Expanding upon their pastoral rock foundations, the Denton-based ensemble embraced deeper, British-leaning progressive folk influences. The record trades the Fleetwood Mac-inspired warmth of its predecessor for a moodier, strictly acoustic-driven atmosphere laced with flute arrangements and somber vocal harmonies. It marks a decisive, atmospheric shift for the band, heavily inspired by the melancholic sounds of late-1960s British folk acts.
