Milt Jackson Quartet

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Originally recorded in 1954 just prior to the ensemble formally incorporating as the Modern Jazz Quartet, this session captures the foundational, deeply refined chamber-jazz aesthetic in its infancy. The vibraphonist's famously soulful, ringing mallets are beautifully contrasted by John Lewis's highly structured, classically influenced piano accompaniment. The profoundly swinging, intellectually rigorous recording established the blueprint for one of the most revered and enduring groups in jazz history.
