The Jazz Skyline

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Temporarily distancing himself from the rigid, classical-leaning structures of the Modern Jazz Quartet, the premier vibraphonist stretches out in an incredibly relaxed, hard-swinging quartet setting. Supported beautifully by pianist Lucky Thompson, the leader's ringing mallets explore deep, unhurried blues grooves and sophisticated bop harmony. The flawlessly paced, intensely melodic recording highlights his unparalleled ability to generate immense heat and emotion as a primary soloist.
