Album Notes & Community Reviews
MJ Lenderman's 'Boat Songs' merges alt-country and lo-fi indie rock, built upon distorted, Crazy Horse-style guitars and prominent pedal steel textures. Lenderman鈥檚 songwriting is noted for its unpretentious and plainspoken perspective, using subjects like professional wrestling and Michael Jordan to explore themes of burnout, anxiety, and the absurdities of American life. The album's synthesis of ramshackle charm with a gentle, deadpan vocal delivery garnered widespread critical acclaim, establishing it as a touchstone of the 2020s Southern indie underground.
