Album Notes & Community Reviews

This monumental, four-hour chamber piece was composed in 1984 as a tribute to the titular Abstract Expressionist painter, a close friend of the composer. 'For Philip Guston' is performed by an ensemble featuring flute, piano, and percussion, requiring intense stamina and concentration from its interpreters. The recording captures the hypnotic, quietly shifting tonal clusters that define the late period of this New York School minimalist.
