Album Notes & Community Reviews
Returning after a lengthy hiatus, 'Avant que l'ombre...' envelops sweeping French pop in a distinctly nocturnal and melancholic atmosphere. The intensely introspective record utilizes acoustic instrumentation alongside downtempo electronics to address controversial themes involving death, sexuality, and profound longing. It reasserted the iconic vocalist's dominance in the Francophone market through its lush, highly sentimental production.
