Album Notes & Community Reviews
Stepping out from his famous brother's shadow, the brilliant cornetist leads a forceful quintet that prominently features the muscular tenor saxophone of Johnny Griffin. The session leans heavily into deep, blues-drenched grooves, prefiguring the soul-jazz explosion of the 1960s. His warm, highly articulate brass tone is perfectly highlighted within the relentlessly swinging rhythm section.
