The Monsanto Years

Album Notes & Community Reviews

For this highly politicized concept album, the legendary Canadian songwriter recruited Promise of the Real—a band featuring Willie Nelson's sons—as his backing group. The record serves as a blunt, aggressive protest against corporate agribusiness, genetically modified foods, and environmental exploitation. While critics were polarized by the heavy-handed lyricism, the ragged, loose country-rock instrumentation provided a much-needed jolt of energy.
