Little Girl Blue
by Nina Simone
On her debut, 'Little Girl Blue', Nina Simone showcases her classically-informed piano technique and deeply expressive vocals within an intimate trio setting featuring bassist Jimmy Bond and drummer Albert 'Tootie' Heath. Recorded in a single 1957 session and released in 1959, the album established her unique artistry by blending jazz, blues, and pop standards and produced her first hit with 'I Loves You, Porgy', despite contractual disputes that led her to sell the master recordings for a small one-time payment before the album's eventual success.
