Nina at the Village Gate

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Captured during her residency at the famed Greenwich Village club, this intimate set focuses heavily on the artist's deeply expressive interpretation of traditional folk songs and spirituals. Accompanied only by a minimalist rhythm section, her stark, percussive piano work and commanding, deeply resonant contralto take absolute center stage. The performance highlights her unparalleled ability to weave diverse African-American musical traditions into a singular, mesmerizing narrative.
