Album Notes & Community Reviews

Possessing a classically trained, thunderous contralto voice, the artist brings profound dignity and immense gravity to traditional American roots material. The minimal acoustic guitar backing allows her unparalleled vocal control and dynamic range to completely dominate the recording space. The album exemplifies her role as a primary inspiration for the civil rights era's folk movement.
