Built from ethnomusicological recordings made in the 1940s and 1950s, 'Tonkori' reconstructs the playing of tonkori masters Nishihira Ume, Shirakawa Kuruparumah and Fujiyama Haru. Oki layers his own tonkori alongside the archival performances, joining the instrument's past masters across half a century.
