Album Notes & Community Reviews

Saxophonist Oliver Lake's 'Heavy Spirits' is a definitive statement of the mid-1970s avant-garde jazz loft scene. Utilizing unusual configurations, including a string ensemble on several tracks, the album balances harsh, free improvisation with stark, meticulously composed modern creative frameworks.
