Album Notes & Community Reviews

Demonstrating his mastery as both a composer and arranger, 'Sound Pieces' presents two distinct sides of Oliver Nelson's musical vision. The first half features expansive, conceptually rich big band charts, while the second highlights intense, small-group hard bop interplay. The album serves as a definitive showcase of his ability to weave complex modern harmonies into tightly structured, fiercely swinging jazz frameworks.
