Oscar Peterson Plays Count Basie

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Paying joyous tribute to the legendary big band leader, the virtuosic Canadian pianist completely reconstructs classic swing-era repertoire for his famously tight, hard-driving trio. Supported by Herb Ellis and Ray Brown, his lightning-fast, technically flawless right-hand runs are anchored by a relentless, blues-steeped groove that beautifully honors the original Basie aesthetic. The session remains a thrilling, impeccably executed hallmark of his extensive composer songbook series.
