Collaborating once again with producer Rusty Santos, the Animal Collective member scales back his typically maximalist, sample-heavy approach for a surprisingly stripped-down record. Utilizing little more than acoustic guitar, heavily autotuned vocals, and booming, trap-inspired sub-bass, the album creates a strange, watery minimalism. It served as a polarizing, deeply unconventional pivot in his highly celebrated solo discography.
