Album Notes & Community Reviews

This intense, highly collaborative summit between the legendary free jazz saxophonist and the fusion guitar virtuoso resulted in a fiercely uncompromising, avant-garde record. 'Song X' abandons Metheny's typical smooth jazz stylings for highly complex, wildly energetic free improvisation and dissonant, abstract structures. It is a surprisingly aggressive, technically dazzling, and highly melodic exploration of unbounded jazz.
