Hidemi

by Patrick Shiroishi

Hidemi cover art

Constructed as a deeply personal tribute to his Japanese-American grandfather's experience in World War II internment camps, this solo saxophone project is a staggering feat of looping. Shiroishi utilizes multi-tracking to layer various woodwind instruments over each other, building overwhelmingly dense, chaotic walls of sound that suddenly drop into mournful, isolated melodies. It stands as a profound, historically charged masterclass in avant-garde composition.
