Album Notes & Community Reviews

Stepping out from his famous role in the Dave Brubeck Quartet, the immensely lyrical alto saxophonist leads a highly sophisticated, entirely acoustic quartet session. Backed by the Modern Jazz Quartet's rhythm section and guitarist Jim Hall, the arrangements prioritize intricate, deeply swinging contrapuntal interplay over forceful volume. The remarkably dry, airy saxophone tone cements his status as a quintessential, flawlessly elegant voice of the West Coast style.
