Album Notes & Community Reviews
Released on the acclaimed avant-garde label 577 Records, 'Afraid to Speak' is an introspective solo saxophone album from British free-jazz pioneer Paul Dunmall. The record presents a series of raw, abstract, and highly textured improvisations that treat the tenor saxophone as a playground of physical possibilities. Avoiding predictable melodic contours, Dunmall uses extended techniques and sudden dynamic shifts to carve out a singular, deeply focused sonic landscape.
