Operating amidst the ashes of Van der Graaf Generator, the intensely dramatic vocalist pushed further into severe, stripped-down sonic territories. The record heavily employs stark drum machines, jagged rhythms, and complex vocal overdubs, reflecting the mechanical anxieties of the incoming 1980s. Its claustrophobic and deeply eccentric nature profoundly influenced the darker corners of the emerging post-punk movement.
