Solo Violin Improvisations

by Polly Bradfield

Solo Violin Improvisations cover art

Deeply embedded in the New York downtown avant-garde scene, the violinist recorded this uncompromising exercise in extreme acoustic improvisation. The completely unaccompanied performances reject traditional melody entirely, focusing instead on scraping, screeching, and percussive textures drawn from the instrument. It is an obscure, highly challenging artifact of radical late-70s free improvisation.
