On their follow-up to the rock opera 'S. F. Sorrow', the Pretty Things crafted 'Parachute' as a concept album exploring the dichotomy between urban confinement and the uncertain escape to the country. Produced by Norman Smith at Abbey Road, the album's sound is a dynamic blend of hard psychedelic rock and pastoral arrangements rich in vocal harmonies, harpsichord, and mellotron. The songwriting of Phil May and Wally Waller resulted in a cohesive work of multi-part suites and focused tracks, earning the album retrospective acclaim and a disputed but notable mention as a *Rolling Stone* 'album of the year'.
