Coming Up to Consciousness
by Pure Reason Revolution
The sixth album in Pure Reason Revolution's post-reformation era, 'Coming Up to Consciousness' melds progressive rock with electronic textures and pop-inflected harmonies, echoing the dreamlike atmosphere of their debut. An intensely personal work, its eight core tracks explore themes of mortality, betrayal, and grief, largely inspired by songwriter Jon Courtney's loss of a family pet. The album marks a significant lineup change with vocalist Annicke Shireen joining, and features prominent collaborations, including bassist Guy Pratt and mixing by Bruce Soord of The Pineapple Thief, creating a sonically luxurious and dynamic sound that shifts between gentle passages and powerful, epic riffs.
