Album Notes & Community Reviews

Pivoting away from traditional big band arranging, the legendary producer and composer crafted a remarkably smooth, highly accessible fusion of soul-jazz and pop. The record is famously anchored by his iconic, atmospheric reimagining of The Lovin' Spoonful's 'Summer in the City', as well as his own vocal debut on the Stevie Wonder-penned title track. It established a highly successful blueprint for polished, crossover R&B orchestration.
