Album Notes & Community Reviews

Released amidst significant personal and legal controversy, the R&B superstar delivered a massively successful, highly polished collection of contemporary soul. The record relies heavily on lush, melodic vocal arrangements, Chicago steppers' grooves, and explicitly romantic, sensual lyricism. It dominated the charts and solidified his position as one of the era's preeminent, albeit polarizing, figures in commercial R&B.
