In a radical departure from traditional blues purism, producer Tom Rothrock remixed the veteran Mississippi bluesman's gritty recordings with contemporary dance music elements. The resulting fusion of hypnotic, driving hill country guitar riffs with trip-hop beats and electronic sampling proved highly controversial but undeniably innovative.
