Album Notes & Community Reviews

The second self-titled Red House Painters album, often referred to as the 'Rollercoaster' album, is a sprawling double LP that showcases Mark Kozelek's deeply personal songwriting across a range of styles from stark folk to immersive shoegaze. The fourteen compositions are defined by their melancholic instrumentation and Kozelek's poignant lyrical themes of desolation and loss, all culled from a prolific recording session that yielded a surplus of material. Regarded as a landmark of 1990s slowcore, the album's tracklist was compiled by 4AD founder Ivo Watts-Russell, highlighting the band's dynamic arrangements and emotional depth.
