Album Notes & Community Reviews

Recorded during the height of the folk revival, 'Say No to the Devil' captures Reverend Gary Davis exclusively performing religious material on his complex 12-string acoustic guitar. His intricate Piedmont picking style acts as a powerful counterbalance to his rough, booming street-preacher vocals. The record was highly influential among Greenwich Village folk artists seeking authenticity in traditional spirituals.
