Symphony No. 2 in C major, Op. 61

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Steered by the famously disciplined baton of George Szell, this recording strips away excessive nineteenth-century sentimentality to reveal the brilliant architecture of Schumann's orchestration. The Cleveland Orchestra delivers the complex, often knotty symphonic structures with astonishing clarity and dynamic control. It stands as a prime example of mid-century precision applied to the romantic tradition.
