Album Notes & Community Reviews

Renowned for his crisp, highly interactive snare and cymbal technique, drumming legend Roy Haynes steps into the bandleader role for this deeply swinging hard bop session. The quartet, featuring Frank Strozier on alto sax and flute, tackles complex rhythmic figures with remarkable agility and harmonic freedom. 'Cymbalism' highlights Haynes's incredible ability to orchestrate and imply melody entirely from the drum kit.
