The Chicago instrumental trio largely abandons the sprawling, meditative crescendos of their previous effort in favor of an aggressively direct approach. Driven by Mike Sullivan's massive, distorted guitar loops and Dave Turncrantz's punishing percussion, the record is a masterclass in tension and release within incredibly heavy, suffocating post-metal structures.
