Issued as a double LP, 'Serçe' consolidated the breakthrough of Aksu's early singles and established her as Turkish pop's defining singer-songwriter. She starred the same year in Atıf Yılmaz's film 'Minik Serçe', and the sparrow of the album's title, a nickname bestowed by a Turkish journalist, became the name by which Turkey still knows her.
