Before their stadium-rock ascent, Simple Minds crafted a breathtakingly icy, Krautrock-inflected masterpiece of European post-punk. Heavily influenced by Kraftwerk and David Bowie's Berlin era, 'Empires and Dance' utilizes pulsating, mechanical basslines and incredibly atmospheric synthesizers to deliver a deeply anxious, incredibly dark, and rhythmic examination of geopolitical tension.
