Following the suffocating darkness of 'There's a Riot Goin' On', Sly Stone returned with a remarkably stripped-down, rhythmically revolutionary funk masterclass. 'Fresh' relies on primitive drum machines and wonderfully playful, deeply rhythmic basslines, offering a surprisingly warm, deeply mellow, and subtly psychedelic exploration of deep funk.
