Operating alone with a four-track cassette recorder, Bill Callahan's debut album under the Smog moniker is a deeply fragmented and abrasive experiment. Predating his later, more refined acoustic storytelling, the lo-fi collection is characterized by discordant guitars, primitive drum machines, and a profoundly insular slacker-rock aesthetic.
