Album Notes & Community Reviews
Intended as a heartfelt tribute to the recently deceased bebop pioneer Charlie Parker, this quintet session remarkably avoids simply recreating standard bebop arrangements. Featuring Kenny Dorham and Max Roach, the record is anchored by an ambitious, 26-minute continuous medley of standards deeply associated with the late saxophonist. The leader's massive, authoritative tone and brilliant thematic development provide a masterful, highly modernized homage.
