Album Notes & Community Reviews

Rufus Perryman, an albino pianist from Georgia and the older brother of Piano Red, first recorded 'The Dirty Dozens' in Memphis in 1929, and its sung exchange of insults is often cited as a precursor of rap. 'The Dirty Dozen' presents him in new recordings made after his rediscovery, a barrelhouse program including 'Wilkins Street Stomp', the piece that had made his name three decades earlier.
