Telephono
by Spoon
Prior to developing the incredibly tight, minimalist pop-rock that defined their later career, the Austin group debuted with a raw, noisy burst of post-punk energy. Heavily indebted to the abrasive sounds of Pixies and Wire, Britt Daniel's songwriting is aggressive, rhythmically tense, and highly unpolished. The frantic, lo-fi aesthetic provides a fascinating, youthful glimpse into the origins of one of America's most consistent indie-rock institutions.
