Album Notes & Community Reviews
Arranged by Oliver Nelson, 'Joyride' places Stanley Turrentine's robust, blues-soaked tenor saxophone front and center against a dynamic, hard-swinging big band. The album balances highly sophisticated brass arrangements with deeply grooving soul-jazz vamps, anchored by Herbie Hancock's piano work. It is considered one of the finest large-ensemble recordings in the extensive Blue Note catalog.
