Attempting to reconcile his legendary progressive rock past with the highly commercial, synthesized aesthetics of the 1980s, the former Genesis guitarist delivered this incredibly slick solo effort. 'Highly Strung' prominently features driving, pop-oriented vocal hooks alongside his signature, sweeping fretboard gymnastics and prominent drum machines. The accessible, radio-friendly approach yielded minor chart hits like 'Cell 151,' representing a fascinating mainstream pivot for the renowned virtuoso.
