Originally conceived as a massive, multi-media documentary music theater piece with Beryl Korot, Steve Reich's 'The Cave' explores the shared theological roots of Judaism and Islam. The highly innovative score directly utilizes speech melodies extracted from documentary interviews regarding the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron. It firmly stands as one of Reich's most technologically ambitious and politically resonant post-minimalist compositions.
