Recorded entirely in a makeshift home studio, Vai's debut solo album is a bizarre, wildly eclectic showcase of his formidable guitar technique. Heavily influenced by his time playing with Frank Zappa, the record veers unpredictably from complex instrumental shredding to surreal, comedic set pieces. It successfully launched his career as a solo guitar virtuoso outside the confines of a traditional band structure.
