Album Notes & Community Reviews
Functioning as his first album of original material in a decade, 'The Last Ship' was composed alongside the development of his identically titled Broadway musical. The record acts as a deeply personal homage to his upbringing near the Swan Hunter shipyard in Wallsend, heavily incorporating Celtic folk, sea shanties, and traditional Northumbrian instrumentation. It serves as a nostalgic, highly narrative reflection on the decline of the British shipbuilding industry.
