Radically shifting away from the raw, traditional black metal of their debut, the Austrian duo fully embraced an epic, synthesizer-driven aesthetic deeply rooted in J.R.R. Tolkien's mythology. The complete abandonment of live drums in favor of militaristic, programmed percussion allowed expansive, medieval keyboard melodies to dominate the compositions. This visionary transition essentially established the blueprint for modern epic atmospheric black metal.
